Casi Primavera en DC

El día que aterricé en DC los termómetros marcaban 0ºC  y yo venía totalmente mentalizada de que pronto llegaría el  mayor frío que iba a pasar en mi vida, pero parece ser que el invierno está perezoso y ha querido hacerle un huequito a la primavera antes de apoderarse de la ciudad los tres próximos meses.

El domingo me levanté tempranito y al mirar por la ventana el día tan espectacular que hacía no lo dude un segundo y salí a la calle para empezar a explorar la ciudad.

Me llamaron unas amigas que querían ir a visitar la Universidad Católica de América, y como mi intención es ir enseñándoles poco a poco cada rinconcito de esta ciudad ¿Por qué no empezar por ahí?

La UCA fue fundada en 1887 y se encuentra en el barrio de Brookland, al Nordeste de DC. En el campus principal se encuentra la majestuosa Basílica del Santuario Nacional de la Inmaculada Concepción, que es la iglesia más grande de Norteamérica ( y he de reconocer que yo no soy muy de iglesias… ¡pero esta es preciosa!).

Para quien quiera dar un paseo por una zona tranquila, con edificios preciosos y jardines donde poder tumbarte a respirar tranquilidad que no dude en darse un salto por aquí J

Y para compensar un poquito la paz de los últimos días, el viernes me voy a Nueva York a pasar el fin de semana, así que prometo que el próximo post va a estar cargadito de fiesta, risas y diversión.

¿Alguien me propone algún “must go” en la gran manzana? J

Almost Spring in DC

The day I landed in DC thermometers showed 32ºF and I was prepared for the coldesr tempertures I ever felt, but seems that Winter is lazy and wanted to squeeze for the spring before selze the city next three month.

On Sunday I got up early and looked out my window the amazing day I decided go for a walk and start to explore the city.
Some friends who wanted to visit the Catholic University of America called me, and as my intention is to show you each place of this city, why not start there?

The CUA was founded in 1887 and is located in the Brookland neighborhood, northeast of DC. In the main campus you can found the majestic Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, which is the bigest church in NorthAmerica ( I must confess I don’t like too much the churches ... but this one is beautiful!).

For those who want to have a walk in a quiet place with beautiful buildings and gardens where you can lie down breathing peace, you must come here! ☺

To compensate the peace of these days, on Friday I'm going to New York to spend the weekend, so in the next post I promise there will be party and fun!

¡Feliz Acción de Gracias!

Después de una semana sin parar he tenido unos días de descanso, y el motivo ha sido la celebración de Acción de gracias. Es la primera vez que lo celebro, y que mejor manera que con la familia Tysvaer, 100% americana.

El cuarto jueves de Noviembre, todos los norteamericanos se reúnen junto a sus seres más queridos para dar las gracias por todo lo bueno y positivo que les ha pasado durante el año.

Yo me fui a un pequeño pueblecito llamado Blairstown situado al noroeste del estado de New Jersey. Es de esos pueblos que parece que solo existen en las películas, con unos paisajes espectaculares, casas preciosas, tranquilidad absoluta y que como te descuides te puede sorprender un ciervo o un oso en tu jardín.

Como era de esperar, comimos un enorme pavo, acompañamientos típicos como el puré de batatas, judías verdes y la mermelada de arándanos y por supuesto no podían faltar las tartas y el pastel de calabaza. ¡Estaba todo buenísimo!

Al día siguiente aproveché para dar un paseo y fui a comprar donuts caseros en una granja cercana, una costumbre típica de la zona que me pareció divertidísima, además estaban para chuparse los dedos. Fueron dos días geniales.

No se me ocurre mejor momento para agradecer el poder tener la oportunidad tan maravillosa de vivir un año en Estados Unidos, estoy disfrutando cada día como si fuera el primero y estoy segura de que va a ser una de las mejores experiencias de mi vida. Por todo esto y por mucho mas…

Happy Thanksgiving!

After a very busy week i had some days to have a rest, the reason was The Thanksgiving celebration. It was my first Thanksgiving day and I can't see any better way to celebrate it than with Tysvaer family, 100% american.

The fourth thursday of November, northamerican people get together with their families to be thankfull about every good things about the last year.

I went to a very little town called Blairstown in northwest of New Jersey. It's that kind of town that seems to exist just in movies, wonderfull landscapes, beautiful houses, peace and where you can be sorprised for a bear or deer in your garden.

As usually we ate a very big turkey, typical accompaniment like sweet potatoes, green beans and cranberry sauce, after all we eat a lot of desserts and of course, pumpkin pie.

Everything was delicious!

Next day I went for a walk and to buy some homemade donuts in a farm close to home. It was very funny and I loved it! It were two amaizing days!

I don’t imagine better moment to be thankfull because of this opportunity to live a year in USA. I am enjoying each day like it would be the first and I am sure this year it’s going to be one of the best exprience of my life. For all that and much more…

Bienvenida a casa

¡Ya estoy aquí! 

En mi nueva ciudad, mi nueva casa y con una familia encantadora que me ha acogido como una más desde el primer día.

Cuando supe cual iba a ser mi barrio sabía que era una buena zona… ¡Pero no tanto! 

Las casas son preciosas, hay mucha vida y un montón de cosas que hacer por aquí cerca, además estoy rodeada de las mejores tiendas y restaurantes de la ciudad.

Apenas llevo tres días aquí y se supone que no dan para mucho… ¡pero yo los he exprimido al máximo!

Estuve en un concierto benéfico de Tito el Bambimo (un cantante latino) y la verdad es que me lo pase genial, fui de compras al centro comercial (parada obligatoria en Forever XXI y Victoria’s Secret) cenita en un japonés ayer por la noche que continúo yendo a tomar unas copas y a bailar un rato en un pub de la zona y hoy fui a dar un paseo para ir conociendo mejor el barrio. Además de todo eso he tenido la formación del trabajo por las mañanas y he sacado tiempo para organizar todo mi equipaje, por lo que ya estoy oficialmente instalada en DC J

Quiero agradecer especialmente a Paola su ayuda todos estos días. Ella deja un hueco en esta ciudad que yo voy a llenar a partir del miércoles con muchas ganas e ilusión. ¡Te voy a echar mucho de menos y espero que vuelvas pronto!

Welcome home!

I’m already here! New city, new home and living with a great family who make me feel a member of the family from the first day.

I knew that my new neighborhood was great, but not it´s even better than i imagined! The houses are beautiful, good environment, and lot of things to do close to my home, as well there are the best stores and restaurants of the city.

I just been here for three days… but I seen it all!

I’ve been to the Tito el Bambino beneficial concert (latin Singer) and it was amazing. I went shopping at the mall (obligatory stop in Forever XXI and Victoria’s Secret), had dinner in japanese restaurant and then we went to have some drinks and dance in a club, and today i went for a walk to become more familiar with the community. As well I had training in the mornings and I had time to unpack everything so I am officially residing in DC J

I am particularly thankful to Paola, who helped me a lot these last days. She is leaving me this position that I’m going to take from next Wednesday and I am very excited about that. I`m going to miss you a lot and hope you come back soon!

First impression: 10 points!

¡Nos vemos pronto New York!

Se acabó mi primera visita a Nueva York… ¡Corta pero muy intensa!

Mis días aquí comienzan a las 6 de la mañana y la verdad me está costando bastante adaptarme al nuevo horario de vida y sobre todo ¡al de comidas!

Todas la mañanas tuvimos clases, eran muchas horas y muy intensas pero me dio tiempo a conocer gente de 23 países diferentes e incluso a hacer amigas con las que estoy segura de que voy a compartir muchas cosas este año, así que me llevo un montón de cosas positivas.

Nada más terminar las clases salíamos pitando a Manhattan para poder aprovechar toda la tarde.

Tal como lo recordaba: los rascacielos, la gente, las luces, el ambiente, el humo, el estrés… . ¡Adoro esta ciudad!

Era la primera visita, así que tocaba ir a los sitios más turísticos.

Pasamos por la 5ªavenida, el Empire State, vimos la estatua de la libertad, el puente de Brooklyn, comimos perritos calientes en la calle, un paseo por Time Square e incluso dio tiempo para hacer un descanso y tomar unas cervezas en un típico bar newyorkino en el que lo pasamos genial.

Ahora estoy en el aeropuerto de camino a DC donde me espera mi nueva vida de la que les iré contando cosas esta semana. ¡Qué ganas tengo de llegar y ver todo!

De momento les dejo con algunas fotos de estos días, aunque les aseguro que no serán las únicas de NY porque volveré muy pronto J

My first visit to NYC is over, short but intense!!

My days start here at 6am and, to be honest, i am finding hard to adapt to the new schedule and most of all, food times!

We had classes every morning, lots of hours and very intensive but i managed to people from 23 different countries and even to make new friends, who with I'm sure i will share lots of things this year, so i took many positive things out of this! :)

Just after we finished classes we ran to Manhattan to enjoy the rest of the day.

Just as i remembered: the skyscrapers, the people, the lights, the atmosphere, the smoke, the stress… I LOVE THIS CITY!

It was the first visit, so we had to go to the most touristic places

We went to the 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Liberty Statue, Brooklyn Bridge, we ate hot dogs in a street, a walk around Time Square and even we had time to relax and drink some beers in the typical New Yorker bar, where we had so much fun. 

Now, I'm at the airport on my way to DC, where my new life is waiting for me, of which i will be telling you about during this week. I am so willing to arrive and see everything!

El comienzo

Me voy a vivir un año a Estados Unidos.

Esas son las palabras que hace tan solo unos meses pronunciaba con un cosquilleo en el estómago y aún sin creérmelo del todo.

Hoy 14 de Noviembre de 2011 comienzo mi blog a más de 9000m de altura sobre el Océano Atlántico, con una sonrisa de ilusión permanente y sin saber aún muchas de las cosas que me esperan en Washington DC, la ciudad en la que voy a vivir durante un año.

¡Gracias a mi familia y amigos por estar ahí, apoyándome incondicionalmente y por estos últimos días de comidas, cenas, cañas, risas y mucho cariño!

Nada me hace más ilusión que poder compartir con todos esta nueva aventura porque estoy segura de que va a estar llena de sorpresas y de cosas que no voy a querer olvidar J

¿Y qué mejor manera de comenzarla que pasando unos días en Nueva York?

The beginning

I’m going to live a year in United States.

Those were the words I told some months ago with stomach ticklish and don’t even believe it.

Today, November 14th of 2011 I begin my blog at more than 30000ft over the Atlantic Ocean, with a permanent smile in my face and without knowing what will happen next year in Washington DC, where I’m going to live.

Thanks to my family and friends for being always there and for the last days of lunchs, dinners, drinks, laughts and love!

I’m so excited to share with all of you this new adventure because I’m sure there will be a lot of sorprises and things to never forget J

Does exist a better way to begin this trip than spending a few days in New York?

See you in the big apple!
